The Big Pour!

Today was another huge milestone! We poured the main house floor slab. Starting in the dark at 7.30am with the first of six truckloads of concrete (41 cubic metres), the team of Jamie (concrete pump man) and Jason and his crew (concrete placers) worked from dawn until past nightfall to pour and smooth the concrete. As you can see, the heavy rain of last week not only filled our stream, but was a challenge to the trucks as they turned our "lawn" into a quagmire. Luckily no-one got completed bogged in! It was a beautiful sunny day for the pour, but the generally cold conditions at this time of year means it takes longer to set. We had 2 percent calcium added which speeds up the process, but by dark the placers were still hard at it! However, Ben the boss is extremely pleased with the results so far, and we now have a floor to our house!!

It looks like things are really moving, now the floor slab has been poured. The design looks really good too - I just thought, Ben, that our Grandfather built his own house and it looks like you are following in his footsteps. I am sure if he were able to see you today, he would be so proud! Good luck and I look forward to hearing more great news about the build...which will soon be a reality, and you will be able to put your feet up at last! lol Miss you both loads and hope Ed & I can come and visit soon.
