The building is almost all wrapped up - with plywood and building paper, and is now ready for the external cladding of aerated concrete (Hebel). Ben screwed in the first piece of plasterboard in the laundry, in preparation for the hot water tank, which will be fed by solar panels on the roof immediately above. It's been raining for a couple of days, so good for filling the main water tank. This week the aluminium joinery and glazing arrives and is fitted, and then on Saturday we're moving in to make camp in the office! Facilities will be limited at first, but spring is here so time to set up the BBQ!
Located near Nelson in New Zealand, the paddock measures three acres with a stream running through it, views to the mountains, forests and farmland, with the only noise to break the peace being the sheep next door. A former tobacco growing region, the valley and surrounding hills are now known for blackcurrents, hops, apples, olives and vineyards. Our little plot was originally owned by Thomas Eden in 1862, who built the cottage and farmed cattle on the land. We are planning to build our dream home here!
